After a roughly one-year hiatus, unregulated online poker room Bovada has returned to once again cater to U.S. players in unregulated markets.
The company announced the return in a late August email to customers, as well as a posting on their website.
Prior to September 2016, Bovada operated as one of the most popular online poker rooms in the world, reaching as high as No. 3 according to traffic trackers at PokerScout. However, at that point, the company announced a transition, ostensibly selling its poker offering to Ignition Casino and closing its doors on Sept. 30.
So chalk me up as the latest person having issues with Bovada. Few nights ago I deposited and had nearly $7800 of coin-in slot play, earning me almost 39,000 rewards points. So after I lose my money getting 'reckless' ? I tried to redeem the reward points which were worth about $31, and the form seemed to go through as normal but ultimately. Bovada tells you they will charge you only 4.9% for all deposits, but sometimes they do and sometimes they don't, they grab a few cents or a buck or two more than what you agree to when depositing with customer service (using Visa Debit Card.) Fortunately I noticed this on my bank statement and confronted them over the phone.
Once licensed by the Kahnawake Gaming Commission but operating in blatant disregard for U.S. law, Bovada now lists no regulating gaming commission on its website.
The poker offering at Ignition turned out to be a clone of the Bovada client, which led many to believe that the room was still under the same ownership but with the proverbial banners simply replaced.

Bovada, which operated in violation of U.S. law after the 2011 exits of major online poker operators, aims to poach customers who reside in unregulated U.S. markets and therefore don't have access to regulated online poker. On Wednesday, the company sent an email to customers in the three states that offer regulated online poker in the U.S. (Nevada, New Jersey and Delaware), plus Maryland and New York, saying that it will no longer offer poker services in those states. Player accounts in those five states will be closed by Oct. 2, 2017.

Bovada, the unregulated, and largest U.S.-facing online poker site according to PokerScout, will discontinue its poker offering as of Sept. 30. That part of the business has been sold to a company called Ignition Casino, players learned in an email sent Tuesday morning.
Users have until that date to move their accounts to Ignition.
'After this date, poker at Bovada will no longer be available,' the email reads. 'You’ll still have access to Bovada’s sportsbook, casino and racebook products. Ignition Casino uses the same platform as Bovada, so the features you enjoy such as anonymous tables, Zone poker, mobile poker and guaranteed tournaments, like the weekly $100K, will be there waiting for you. Both sites will also operate simultaneously with shared player pools until the transition is complete.'
Bovada has continued to operate its U.S.-facing business in violation of the same laws that led to the Department of Justice crackdown on PokerStars and Full Tilt that incited Black Friday in 2011. According to PokerScout, Bovada's seven-day average of 1,400 cash game players trails only industry giant PokerStars (13,500) and 888poker (1,800).
What Happened To Bovada Poker
A number of players have already transferred their accounts to the Ignition client, which appears to be a virtual clone of Bovada based on screenshots posted in a TwoPlusTwoVegasstripcasino instant play. thread. Ignition offers a casino vertical but not a sportsbook, and there was almost no information available about Ignition's parent company, Lynton Limited, according the reporting of Joss Wood at OnlinePokerReport.
As such, speculation has run rampant in the aforementioned TwoPlusTwo thread that the move to Ignition was simply an effort by Bovada to segregate their poker players away from their most valuable clients, sports bettors.
Since a 2011 rebranding, Bovada has essentially been a U.S.-facing skin of Bodog, a site founded by Calvin Ayre in 2000. How to beat blazing bull. One seemingly unanswered question is whether player pools will continue to be shared between Ignition and Bodog. Wood reported that looks to be the case, but a phone call to customer service at Ignition indicated otherwise.
'We are only a U.S.-facing site,' the customer service representative said. 'The players here will only be U.S. players.'
